Not too long ago the Whole Foods in Glendale moved down the street on Glendale Avenue to a larger location. This one is huge. I miss the quaintness of the smaller store but the new location has LOTS of parking spaces and it's never a problem to find a parking spot.
Their produce is much fresher and they have a greater variety than a typical US grocery store. Plus a majority of their food items are organic meaning the farmers don't use harmful chemicals (i.e., pesticides) or unnatural substances (i.e., antibiotics, growth hormones, additives). Not only does it make for healthier eating, but it also makes a world of difference in terms of taste. There's no comparison when you compare organic tomatoes, strawberries, corn, and chicken to their industrially grown counterparts.
A friend of ours left some marinated Foster Farm chicken at our house and so we had it one night for dinner. We've become so used to eating organic chicken that this didn't even taste like chicken. It was like eating marinated cardboard and we both couldn't stomach it so we had to throw it out. Here is Astrid sitting pretty in front of the freshly cut flowers. A woman walked by and commented on her pink cheeks.
This Whole Foods also has a sushi bar inside it. You can place an order to go or eat at the counter.
Today Uwe and I sat at the counter and had sushi for lunch. (In the photo above, Uwe is standing in the background by the chilled beverages.)
Meanwhile, Astrid waited patiently in her car seat attached to the shopping cart, and entertained herself by sucking on her bib, fingers, and pacifier.
Before you know it Astrid will be placing her own order..."I'll have the unagi bowl with brown rice please, and a side of edamame."
