Scratch & Heal

Babies have really sharp fingernails and they have a tendency to scratch their faces. There are newborn baby mittens you can buy that are basically socks for hands that keep newborns from scratching their faces off. We talked about getting some for Astrid shortly after she was born but then we figured she'd have to learn not to do it on her own eventually. And for the most part, until today, she hadn't scratched herself in a long time.

(Plus, I didn't like the thought of obstructing her hands when she's learning to grasp and developing hand eye coordination.)

Monday morning we woke up to find Astrid with a big, nasty scratch that she had given herself across her nose. Even though we had just trimmed her nails the corners can be sharp. It seems like we're trimming her nails every few days. They grow so fast!Later in the afternoon we could see the scratch had scabbed over and was healing nicely.

Babies heal so fast it's amazing.

oh yeah .. that scratching phase ... it still happens with Julius. Very rarely though, maybe only when he has a very vivid dream.

I hope we get to see Astrid walking videos in a few months as well :)
