Walk around Silverlake
We took a leisurely stroll around Silverlake today.
A little history on Silverlake:
In 1906, to supply the city with water, William Mulhulland completed construction of two reservoirs on land north west of Downtown Los Angeles. These two reservoirs could supply the city with enough water for 22 days. The smaller of the two reservoirs was named Ivanhoe. The largest was soon to be dedicated to Mr. Herman Silver, first president of the city Water Commission (McGreen & Julian, 1994).
As a result of the real estate boom of the 1920's the area around the reservoirs began to be developed. The reservoir became known as Lake Silver by the residents. As a result, the largest reservoir and the entire city district would be called Silverlake.
