This Mayor's Discovery Park is located near Astrid's YMCA and we drive right past it all the time. If you're not looking for it, you can easily pass right by it. There are bicycle spokes on top of the entrance gate.Located inside is a discovery fountain - where the park gets its name.
Mosaic tiles beautifully decorate the bottom floor of the fountain and feature many aquatic animals, like this turtle, that kids can reach in and touch. Here you can see some fish. (Toys are not part of the fountain. Another boy brought them.)
Astrid saw the other kids playing in the fountain and wanted to go in there as well, but there's a big sign posted that says going in the fountain is prohibited. It's a work of art, plus water and slippery tiles don't make it appropriate (safe) for running and playing in there.
Another family brought their puppy and let Astrid pet it.
It's her size and she wanted to pick it up so badly.
The dog's owner took a photo of us with her dog.
The park has a large lawn and had lots of shade when we were there around 5:30 PM.We found a watering hole she's allowed to play in. There's a sandbox here, so I assume the water is for rinsing off the sand before leaving. However, whoever was there before us left the water running for a long time and flooded this corner of the sandbox.
At least Astrid could get her feet wet and play in the water. She was soaked when we left, but she had fun.
