We went to Griffith Park and the playground near the merry go round called, "Shane's Inspiration". Last time we went there Astrid could only play on the swings because she wasn't walking yet. But today she had fun walking all around the playground. This particular playground has a bouncy material on the ground that keeps kids from injuring themselves when they fall. Astrid didn't really like it, and preferred walking on the cement instead. Here she is playing inside the kid's fire truck and peaking out the window. This little boy is 12 months old and isn't walking yet so his mom has him standing and practicing his balance. Astrid just thought he was the funniest thing. She walked right up to him and laughed and laughed.Walking with her sippy cup.
You can't tell from this photo, but Astrid has finally gotten the knack of drinking out of her sippy cup. At first it was a challenge to get her to drink from a sippy cup, until we found this one (at Right Start), which she loves. I also love this brand because it has an attached flip cap that fits right over the nozzle and locks into place so you can take it on the go without worrying about it getting dirty, or water leaking out. After only 10 minutes of walking around, I noticed that the skin on Astrid's arms was a bit pink, so I swept her away to the shade, but getting her to stay there wasn't so easy. She loved wandering off into the open, hot sun. Here I found part of the playground in the shade, next to a slide where Astrid could play."Um, excuse me, but aren't you supposed to go down the slide? Not up?"
I wanted to go down a slide with Astrid, but after seeing this big kid go up the slide with dirty shoes, I decided against it since I was wearing light colored shorts. Maybe next time we can go with Uwe (who doesn't mind getting a little dirty) and he can take Astrid down a slide while I take photos.

We've taken Evan to Shane's Inspiration twice so far, and he loves it -- especially the full-body swings (which, I must admit, look like the most comfortable, luxurious swings I've ever seen). Much to our fears, though, he's also obsessed with climbing those steps as seen in your first picture. The ones without any railings or any safety features at all. Yikes!
