Daddy's little girl

Many people have commented on how much Astrid looks like Uwe. No matter how much Uwe protests and says he'd have preferred that our child looked like me, I know that deep down inside he's happy that he has a child in his own image. And I can't complain because I have a cute husband and baby. =)Here she is with a flower behind her ear that we picked outside.Looking like an Oshkosh baby modeling her new outfit. Sticking her tongue out while looking out the French doors.Playing with daddy's wallet.

See? Didn't I say she was daddy's little girl? Uwe's watching her out of the corner of his eye and it doesn't bother him a bit that she's playing with his wallet.
She loves holding it and opening it and looking at the contents (especially Uwe's drivers license since it has his photo on it and Astrid recognizes Uwe).

Just about every baby girl I've seen looks like their father. I read somewhere that back in prehistoric times, men who had babies who looked like them were more likely to bring food back and care for their children and their wives. So there was a survival factor which makes sense. In today's world where most men cherish their children, it doesn't mean a whole lot, but it still must bring a smile to a dad's face every time they see their mini-me strolling around the house.

One of the things that always happened pretty quickly after meeting someone new in China was looking at pictures of each other's kids. Trailhead Kid has my eyes and the same white-blonde hair I had as a kid, but otherwise he's a clone of my husband. So I couldn't understand why every Chinese person I met kept going on and on about how TK looks so much like me. Finally (and probably after I had made a few goofs in this regard), our friend O advised us that in China, it's considered good luck for sons to look like mothers, and daughters to look like fathers.

But Chinese luck notwithstanding, I was showing my mom the post about Astrid's first b-day while she was here, and I noticed that I have started perceiving a resemblance between you and Astrid. Perhaps its similar expressions, or the shape of your faces, but as she gets older she's started to look (to me, anyway) more like you.

But she's almost criminally adorable in any event. :)

That's sweet of you to say Trailhead. Uwe said something similar when I was holding Astrid...something about her expression reminded him of me.

Uwe's also fond of saying she gets her blond hair and blue eyes from him, but her cuteness from me. =)

And you're showing my blog to your mom? I sure hope I get to meet you someday (and Bloggerdad).

Oh, that Bloggerdad. :)

Isn't it funny, feeling like you know someone you've never met?

As for my mom, we were sitting at the table one night while she was here and I was checking my favorite sites on the laptop, and I had to show her the first birthday post. (Told you it should be in your top five for the year!) She agreed that Astrid was super cute, especially in her little hambok.

i think i have not seen enough pics of either Uwe or you Rose to really be able to judge who she looks like .. but I guess it is a bit like Julius .. while Astrid has the obvious caucasian features (blonde) .. i would say that she has some of your eyes and your fascial features .. which I think is just a fantastic mix ...

I am very curious how our kids will look like when they are older ..
