Grandma feeds Astrid Korean food for lunch

Astrid and I spend every Monday at my parents' house (aka Grandma & Grandpa's house), and most often my mom will cooked us a Korean feast for lunch.

She loves feeding Astrid rice wrapped in dried seaweed (she makes sure she shakes off the salt), chicken, all sorts of Korean side dishes that aren't spicy, and I've recently noticed that she's been giving her kimchee (with the spicy stuff rinsed off of course).

Meanwhile I get to enjoy my favorite Korean dishes. And when Astrid is done, my mom will take her out into the backyard and push her on the swing so I can finish eating my lunch.

Astrid just saw these photos and pointed and said, "Look! I eating with Grandma."

Normally I don't allow Astrid to bring dolls with her in the car (since it clutters up the car and then we risk her forgetting the doll somewhere and losing it altogether), but on the drive to my parents' house (Grandma & Grandpa's house), I let her bring her doll in her carrier so she had something to play with over at their house.

After these photos were taken she fell asleep holding the doll protectively back in it's carrier. It was so cute. Like a little mommy.

My dad was released from the hospital and is back at home now.

Astrid and I spent the night at my parents' house and Astrid enjoyed walking Grandpa & Grandma's doggie. She's the perfect size for Astrid, (but she's still a puppy and just learning to walk on the leash) so she pulls on the leash at times -which calls for Astrid to shout "Stop! Kathy stop! No pull!"

Over her fish phobia

When we were at the beach last time, Astrid was afraid of the little minnows swimming in the water. So when I saw this toy fish (that actually swims like a real fish and is painted to look like a real one) in the store, I thought it might help her get over her fear of fish.

I think it did the trick. She didn't mind it swimming next to her and even loved pulling the chord to make the fin in the back start moving again.After awhile she even forgot about the fish and was focused on soaping up.

Drinking out of a cup

Astrid's getting a lot better at drinking out of cups now. I still have her drink out of a sippy cup which is more convenient if we're traveling, but if we're at home, I let her drink out of a cup and just remind her to use two hands to hold it.

My dad called this one. He saw her getting a mouth full of water and he said, "She's going to spit in the pool."

That's the first time I've ever seen her do that. She kept coming back for more water, only to spit it out in the pool. After the glass was empty, that was it.

Recently my husband said we should teach Astrid how to spit when she brushes her teeth. But I guess she already knew how. =P

Playing in a baby castle pool on a hot summer day

Last week I went to 3 stores and not one had a simple baby pool, or a pump. Today I tried Target and they were sold out. I guess summer is in full swing.

The only pools left on the shelves at Target were for older kids (not appropriate for toddlers). They did however have electric air pumps - woo hoo!

I found this baby castle pool at Walgreens for $20. It has a pool and slide, and another section with a castle and a wading pool. It's a bit more elaborate than I was looking for, but at least she'll have a lot of fun playing in it this summer.
